As the first in a long line of products to be reviewed, weekly, here at Hot Dads, The New Balance 70 tops the list as a Hot Product! When I first received the box and removed one of the shoes to inspect it, I feared that they would not have the comfort or stability that I needed. Not getting into detail about my aging and decrepit self I will say that I do have ongoing foot problems…and no, it’s not the smell. The balls (yes I said it….you can all chuckle) of my feet cramp very easily, if I am not wearing properly cushioned footwear.

These shoes are very light and seem to have a very sturdy sole, not lending itself to be very cushiony. I bit the bullet and threw them on. The coloring and design are not typical for me, but they are what seems to be Hot these days (again showing my age). But…the ‘hip’ in me does get into the fact that these shoes are made with “environmentally preferred materials.”
After having them on for about 30 minutes, I realized that not only were they very comfortable, but they also allowed for air to enter, through the thin mesh surface on the top, which kept my feet from sweating. They almost felt like slippers…the kind that would not fly off while chasing the kids around the house.
I kept these bad boys on all day, sitting at my desk, doing random housework, cooking and my stint as taxi driver for sports carpools. I have to say that I was thoroughly surprised at how my feet did not hurt once throughout the day.
Being that I have solely worn Puma and Nike over the past ten years…I was hesitant, but my Nikes are now resting peacefully in my closet…to collect dust with the rest of my retired shoe collection.
Lastly, I have to tell you that when you get compliments from your teenage kids (and their friends) on how stylish you look in your new shoes…It makes you feel pretty good. These compliments are today’s confirmation as to why I am a Hot Dad.
NOW…The people at New Balance have been nice enough to offer a pair of these Hot ‘kicks’ (in men's or women's) to one of our readers.

Please see the below for further details on the environmentally friendly, New Balance 70 line of shoes.
The first shoe in New Balance’s eco-preferred collection, the New Balance 70, is developed for fashionable consumers who consider the environment without relaxing their standards of style and comfort. Seventy-five percent of the upper components are “environmentally preferred materials.” The laces, webbing, rand, quarter, tongue and saddle incorporate recycled polyester; the foxing and the tip of the shoe are synthetics made with fewer solvents than traditional materials. Rice husks filler in the outsole reduces the amount of rubber needed, thus reducing the amount of petroleum used. Water-based adhesives (rather than solvent-based) are used to join the upper and the sole unit and no paper stuffing or paper wrapping are used in the packaging of 70. The 70 was also thoughtfully designed to reduce waste. The upper is constructed with minimal layers to reduce unnecessary material usage. It features a uniquely efficient design--the parts fit together much like a puzzle--in an effort to utilize as much of the original cutting material as possible.
