The Truth About Adoption

This was a post from my other blog ...long ago, but I thought that you all may not know some of MY backstory...

Originally, I started my other blog to post some of the stupid stuff that goes on in my life…but after thinking about it…it is kind of scary how much of my life really seems like I am pissing in the wind. And the saga begins…

Have you ever had a phone call where you instantaneously felt the need to vomit, poop, pee, fart, cry and scream all at the same time? That is the call I got the other day.

Sitting at my desk, the phone rang. I picked up. (the description from my wife was) my eyes went bloodshot and teary, mouth gaped open, face turned to stone and I began to sweat profusely as I sunk into my chair. I guess I then began to talk as if I had a mouthful of vomit and that my side of the conversation was limited to one syllable gurgling sounds. On the other end of the phone was my natural mother! HOLY F!!!! I am 40 years old and was adopted when I was 10 days old. Here comes the vomit again just thinking about it. Not that I did not like the call but I literally thought I had to run and change my pants.

I know that there are a lot of adopted people out there and that you never really know how things will work out until you just do it. Well…forget peeing in the wind. This one was more like peeing straight up and letting it come down all over my head. I think I’m going to go throw up….or poo …or both.

More Here and then ...This ...and then...These 1 and 2
(*After reading the above...and links, please come back here and tell me your thoughts.)

1 and 2 link to the same post so I don't know what happened when you met her! I'll search out your archives.
As being on the somewhat other side of the coin, as in my daughter is adopted (at 15 months) I worry a bit about this. If her bm should ever try to come and find her which is very unlikely since she was adopted internationally but I wonder what I'll do when one day my dd comes to me and says she wants to find her 'real' mother. I guess I have to support that but knowing what little we do about her bm, it is not going to be the experience she is expecting. Not the happy ending she'd likely want.
Since my daughter is only just turning three we have a way to go yet before she figures out she's different. Well unless she looks in the mirror and realizes her little Asian self looks nothing like her Scottish-Irish-Russian family!
Cross that bridge when it comes I guess.
I give you lots of credit for going I can't imagine that was an easy day at all.

I've read some of the posts on your blog about this, but never this one.

I often wonder if that's going to be my daughter someday. If her birth mom will just call out of the blue.

you suck for stopping the story mid-way through...lol
Now I'm gonna be forced to go searching your site to find out the rest!

Wow...thanks for sharing man.

You may have mentioned this on your blog, but how old were you when you learned you were adopted?

I guess that's a fear factor for parents who adopt. One of my kids is adopted and I'm not really sure I would want his BM to find him. We don't really know much about his mom so that'll make it kind of hard to answer any of his questions.

That sounds like a very nerve-wracking post you got there, I was actually sitting on the edge of my seat, being too nervous for you. I will definitely go and do a thorough sweep of your blog to find the rest of your posts...you kinda left us hanging you know.

My daughter and my Agnostic are both adopted.. She'll probably never know her bio-mother (international).. Agnostic will probably never know his as all of his records were destroyed in a fire in 1965...
For both, I wish they could have what you have...
Whether it worked out for you or not, congrats on the 'knowing'... :):):)

It's all very strange to me in a real sense adoption is pretty abstract given my upbringing. My grandmother has traced our ancestry back to freaking Tutankhamen, and there might have been 5 whole divorces and maybe 3 adoptions.

I can tell you had I been in the situation, I probably would have acted like you, poop, puke, clammy skin, crazy wheeling eyes and in need of a very stiff drink. All in all it seems to me that it all came out roses, for that you should be happy.

bright blessings!

Holy Cow TentCamper...thanks for letting us in on your life saga. What a ROLLERCOASTER.

Some of my best friends are adopted. Neither of them wanted to find their adoptive parents...I guess it's a decision for each person to make at the time that is appropriate in their lives...

Who knows...they may change their minds later?

I was adopted too and started searching for my bio mom after both of my parents passed away (the parents who raised me and I still consider them to be my "real" parents). But, I found my bio mom a couple of years ago and we talk on the phone at least once a week. I've visited her once (different state) and it's been really great for both of us.

You don't have to own a home to be able to adopt, you just need to have a safe, clean home. And as far as income requirements, you need to be able to support the child.
