Medical Emergency

OK everyone….I need your help here. I I would not blame you all for not helping me as I know that I’ve been very neglectful of this, and all blogs over the holidays. I do apologize for that and promise to get back into the swing.

So here it is…

About 4 days ago my left thumb started bothering me and I kept feeling the need to crack the knuckle. That feeling continued all day…I cracked it all day. The next day I woke to the same thing…except the knuckle was sore. I can’t seem to go 5 minutes without cracking my thumb knuckle. I tried wrapping it with sports tape…did not work.

This continued for the last 4 days and now it is very painful and has become swollen.

I have thought about it and can’t seem to figure out what started it and/or what it is…it is my left thumb…not from texting…not my remote hand. Not my beer hand. No…and not the hand I use to pleasure myself. I don’t really use my left thumb for shit.

I wanted to try the “blocter” before going in to see a real doctor. I wanted to see if any of you know what the problem is or what I can do to help it.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

My vote is on a nerve issue. But then, I'm not a Dr, so it's really only a best guess.

I am voting for nerve - go see a chiropractor first.

I dunno, but if you don't stop doing that you'll go blind.

Sounds like it could be excess fluid on the joint. Or trigger thumb. It if it was pinched nerve I would think it would feel different than what you're describing.

Either way, you have to see a doctor. And quit futzin with it!

I suppose it could also be arthritis.. but I also have no medical training what-so-ever and my medical savvy teen is sleeping in this morning... good luck and as Lilly said- quit messin' with it! That poor thumb is not used to the Jillian Michaels workout

Thanks for the input guys!! I don't know what the hell it is but it is swollen and I am losing mobility in that middle joint...guess I'll have to see a doctor next week.

and DGB - Years ago I proved that 'going blind' theory wrong!!

Gout? Ususally hits the big toe but it can happen anywhere.

Either that or Syphilis.

I suggest you see an orthopedic doctor or a physical therapist - you've waited long enough already!

Hope u r feeling better soon!

I have had a number of wrist and finger joint problems over the years (all stemming from martial arts). In fact, I'm pretty sure I've had what you have. It doesn't feel like arthritis, it feels simply like it's not quite in place, and a little swollen. I'm guessing it's a sprain. It has happened to me when doing knuckle push ups too. This requires immobilization. It's a lot harder than it sounds though because you use it a lot more than you think. You basically have to rest the whole arm for a few days. If it's what I had (and it sounds like it) then the only thing that's going to fix it is to basically not use your arm from your elbow down for several days.

What happens if their is a Medical Emergency while Flying?

Since they are way up in the air and probably can't even land for a while. they could probably call for Medical help but that won't do much until you land.

Can a nurse release information about a medical emergency to a complete stranger?

Since working in an emergency room, I've only encountered it with a repeat male patient who consistently dresses as a female outwardly, as well.
